Swedish wroughtiron
The last pre-historic period is called the Iron Age - the period between 400 BC to 1050 AD. The iron metal is superior to bronze, so iron was immediately used to produce weapons, farming and hunting tools. The iron ore that was made into iron metal was found in lakes and swamps.
There are various kinds of wroughtiron. To start with you separate what a black- smith makes from fine metalwork. A black-smith produces hammers, axes, pickaxes, scythe and similar things. Fine metalwork is for instance making locks, iron mountings and gunbarrels.
When forging and smithing they used a forge loaded with coal . They blow air through a hole to raise the temperature in the fire. Iron was put into the burning coal and when heated up enough, they took the pice of iron to be hammered out. The blacksmith often owned his own workshop including starage of coal and other kinds of fuel.
